Where this class sits on a one-line

A 250 MVA, 345/18 kV GSU steps one mid-size generation block up to a 345 kV collector or interconnect. It is the workhorse shape when a campus phases generation in blocks instead of building one very large unit, because a smaller tank eases transport, spares strategy, and outage exposure.

Two units of this class can also back a dual-block layout where each gen block gets its own step-up path. That layout keeps a single transformer failure from stranding the whole behind-the-meter plant, at the cost of more yard space and more bushings on order.

Spec fields that belong on the RFQ

Lock MVA per cooling stage, the 345/18 kV pair, 60 Hz, BIL from the yard coordination study, and the IEEE C57 or IEC 60076 standards path. Give %Z as a band when two OEM channels will bid, and note whether the generator excitation system handles regulation or the study requires an OLTC.

Name the docs pack in the RFQ: nameplate and rating plate, FAT protocol and certificate, an impedance record for any dual-source interchange case, the heavy-haul permit plan, and the serial registry entry with as-built evidence. Asking for the pack up front avoids a scramble at receive.

Dual-source and schedule risk

This class has more plausible OEM paths than the largest shapes, which makes it a good candidate for dual-source pursue-order work. Pursue paths are discovery, and they never stand in for a buyer-approved vendor list. If dual-source is off the table, the quotation still proceeds on a single channel.

Lead-time planning still applies. Public analyses from 2024 through 2026 describe multi-year purchase-to-receipt windows for large power transformers, so a 250 MVA GSU belongs in procurement at the same time as the interconnect request, well before the building schedule firms up.
